Advertisement Assignment
Due: Wednesday April 14.
Save the ______________!
or
Stop the ______________!
Assignment: In order to further develop your understanding of the considerations and decisions that the creators of visual arguments (advertisers) make, as well as how these choices reflect and affect the audience of these arguments, you will be creating your own visual argument. Basically you will be arguing a point visually. Whether it is a product or an idea, you will need to take into account the various factors that affect your audience and decide which tactics will be most effective in making your case.
For this assignment, you have freedom in terms of creativity, so please take advantage of that, but make sure you are appropriate in your decisions. Also, you need to make sure the emphasis is placed on the visual aspects of your argument.
While you do not have to be a great artist to do well on this assignment, please spend some time on it. I will be able to tell if you didn't.
Choose something that does not need saving or stopping and create an advertisement supporting this cause.
1. Briefly describe your visual argument. What appeals do you use? What type of media did you use? Why?
2. What is the objective of your argument? Who specifically is your intended audience? How does your advertisement appeal them specifically? How are you reaching them? Where would you put this advertisement? Remember “everyone” is not an audience. Be specific.
3. Who is not your intended audience or your unintended audience? Why are these people not part of the target audience? Does it alienate any groups of people? If it does alienate people, how/why does it do this?
